notes:
nkp 2019 neuvádí; Victor Landweber is an accomplished photographer from Berkeley, California. Born in Washington DC in 1943, he began his photographic work after encountering the art of the late 1960s and early 70s at the old Pasadena Art Museum. Graduating with an M.F.A from UCLA in 1976, Landweber wanted to apply what he could learn from looking at and thinking about art to his personal photographic projects. He thinks of his studio photographs from the mid-70s to early 80s as a kind of later-day pictorialism. Like the turn-of-the-Twentieth Century Pictorialists, he modeled his photographs after paintings—in their case sentimental Impressionism, in his case Post-painterly Abstraction, Minimalist and Pop art.

Landweber's work is included in major public collections, including: California Museum of Photography, Center for Creative Photography, Fogg Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Seattle Art Museum, as well as numerous others (Joseph Bellows Gallery)
